Notes for various Animals

Horses

A typical working horse weighs between 900 - 1,200 lbs.

Horses need to eat 1.5 - 3.0 % of body mass, per day.

So, as a rough rule of thumb, typical horses are about 1,000 lbs in weight and eat 20 lbs a day.

Horses are herbivores, and have a specific diet. They need to eat a little, often; and typically eat mostly grass/hay, with fruits (an apple a day), vegtables (a carrot cut lengthways is ideal) and salt added.

Horses should not eat:
> ragwort (poisonous, often found in grass)
> stone fruits (the pits can cause choking)
> sugar/bread (causes obesity and intestinal blockage)
> meat (just, no!)
> broccoli/cabbage
> potatoes/tomatoes (members of Nightshade family)
> brans.
