History of Britannia

The history of the land now known as Britannia is a very long one, full of turns and surprising events. This will be a rough overview over the history so far.
Ancient Britannia
The first to settle Britannia was a race of beings known only as the Ancient Ones. They settled the land, but not much is known about them, other than a great cataclysm occured, and all life died on Britannia, wiping out every sign of the Ancient Ones. It would take a long time before life returned to Britannia, but eventually the land was re-settled by different races, mainly humans, but also dwarves, elves, orcs and goblins.
The Age of Darkness
A very powerful magician named Mondain created horrible beasts and recruited bloodthirsty monsters to do his bidding, and during this time, The Age of Darkness, monsters and beasts plagued the tumultuous lands of Britannia, with the early kingdoms of the lands falling into civil strife and petty feuds. It is said that the wizard Mondain, in the meantime, made strange alliances with creatures that lived among the stars, turning the very heavens hostile. Eventually, Mondain came to war with the kingdoms of early Britannia, and his forces were routed and Mondain's monstrous creations were ousted from the land.
The Revenge of the Enchantress
Unbeknownst to many, Mondain had taken on an apprentice and paramour: Minax the Enchantress. Enraged by her mentor and lover's death, this sorceress vowed revenge, though it would take a decade before she reached the maturity needed to master her vast powers. Once again, monsters and evil plagued and terrorized Britannia, and it took bold heroes to lay siege to Minaxs' fortified tower, Shadowguard. Finally the heroes entered the sorceress' keep and slew her, and thus the hordes of the enchantress that had terrorized Britannia were defeated as her very death shattered any kind of co-ordination between them. Dissolving to small war bands, the monsters were defeated by the realm's army one after the other, and with the danger being over it was felt that the worst was behind the world, while in reality, the worst was still to come in the following years in the form of the legacy left behind by Mondain and Minax.
Craidd Tywyll
What no one could have foreseen was that Mondain and Minax had worked together to create an even greater evil than both of them together. Part daemon and part machine, it was more powerful than both by its very nature. Its name was Craidd Tywyll and the sudden loss of both of its creators made it decide to make the world pay. For many years, Craidd Tywyll gathered information about its enemies, calculating the best way to strike and defeat them all. When no one suspected a third Age of Darkness, Craidd Tywyll launched its attack.
First, the Isle of Fire rose from the ocean, where Exodus located its castle. Then the evil being started to feast on Britannia; pirate fleets and sea monsters, rallied by it, swept clean the seas, while hordes of disgusting monsters roamed the land and slaughtered everyone they found. Craidd Tywyll itself started to poison the very soul of the land with the knowledge it had gained over the years, slowly starting to twist it to its bidding. The attacks were highly confusing as well, since apart from the barest facts, no one knew who or what Craidd Tywyll was.
This time, the heros who gathered again learned that Craidd Tywyll could not be defeated by normal means due to his very dual nature of demon and machine.
Sailing to the Castle of Fire, the heroes fought their way through Craidd Tywyll' guards, with even the very stones on the ground turning against them, before they reached the core of the machine that bound the various parts of Craidd Tywyll together. With the machine exploded, the connection between Craidd Tywylls' soul and the physical parts shattered, thus came the end of the being known as Craidd Tywyll and the last Age of Darkness.
The Age of Enlightenment
Following Craidd Tywylls' defeat, the land of was re-formed again in a cataclysmic upheaval when the forces bound in it were set free all at once, re-shaping the land to its current shape. The sheer destruction caused by such a cataclysm and the death toll caused by Craidd Tywylls' minions ensured that long years of poverty and need followed, as the land recovered from the horrors that had been forced upon it. After the defeat of the remnant forces of Craidd Tywyll, the local city-states were united to a single kingdom in the end, under the rule of King Arthur, thus, the kingdom of Britannia was born.
The World Today
And thus we come to current times. Britannia is ruled benevolently by King Arthur, watched over by the Cat Goddess, Astrid, and advised by the mighty mage Wyatt. One last threat to the peace and stability of Britannia lies in the dreaded Isle of Fire, where the evil Sonja y Ddraig Goch broods and plots her schemes. It is said that the mystic Dreamstone, held by the wizard Wyatt, keeps Sonja y Ddraig Goch at bay, however should she possess the Dreamstone, then she will become the Mistress of all the Universe.
