Shattered Rubies

[2025/04/23 14:26] Sonja Bikergrrl: so, we evicted the geese?
[2025/04/23 14:29] Sapphire: /me refills water and will start soon
[2025/04/23 14:30] Sonja Bikergrrl: /me eyes the clock
[2025/04/23 14:30] Sapphire: back!
[2025/04/23 14:30] Sapphire: apologies, I know we're starting late
[2025/04/23 14:33] Sapphire: --+-- -- --+--
[2025/04/23 14:33] Sapphire: UPDATE: Intruders repelled. Systems repairs may now be undertaken.
[2025/04/23 14:33] Sapphire: Central Intellect streams to your HUDs, and the group finds themselves with a moment to respire fresh air while looking over the mechanical and power assemblies.
[2025/04/23 14:34] Sapphire: > This mechanism is far more advanced than others you have worked with before. Specifically, it will require a roll of 21 or greater to put everything back together,
[2025/04/23 14:35] Sonja Bikergrrl: on what die?
[2025/04/23 14:36] Sapphire: On a d20. Which, you'll notice, doesn't go up to 21. Skills, tools, and effort all come recommended.
[2025/04/23 14:36] Sonja Bikergrrl: I'll give it a go.
[2025/04/23 14:36] D20: Sonja Bikergrrl rolls 12
[2025/04/23 14:36] Sapphire: What are you applying?
[2025/04/23 14:36] Sonja Bikergrrl: ...damnit.
[2025/04/23 14:36] Sonja Bikergrrl: okay, I'm out of ideas. What about you two?
[2025/04/23 14:37] Martina: is my machine control implant any use here?
[2025/04/23 14:37] Sapphire: quite possibly. You only have the one so you'll want to make it count.
[2025/04/23 14:38] Martina: Its an Implant, I can only use it once?
[2025/04/23 14:38] Sonja Bikergrrl: Maybe there's an instruction manual somewhere
[2025/04/23 14:38] Sonja Bikergrrl: or, we could just bang on things, see what that does
[2025/04/23 14:38] Martina: Congratulations, you have raised my libido.
[2025/04/23 14:39] Sapphire: Cyphers in general are one use, yes. Being an implant doesn't stop that, it's not super unsualy to end up with several spent ones that later get repurposed as you level up
[2025/04/23 14:39] Sapphire: unusual*
[2025/04/23 14:39] Mecha: I'm going to start working on sealing the hole the birds came through. Doesn't mean much to fix it if they are going to come back and break it again
[2025/04/23 14:40] Sonja Bikergrrl: I better give Mecha a hand, they were annnoying
[2025/04/23 14:40] Martina: ok, lets give this a try, interacts with the machine control implant to get the mechanism to go into self-repair mode
[2025/04/23 14:40] Mecha: Did what now?
[2025/04/23 14:41] D20: Martina rolls 16
[2025/04/23 14:42] Sapphire: > Sealing up the hole is thankfully a much simpler process, only needing a 6 on the die before skill applications to work.
[2025/04/23 14:42] D20: Sonja Bikergrrl rolls 10
[2025/04/23 14:42] Sonja Bikergrrl: so, a 10 is good
[2025/04/23 14:44] Sapphire: > The implant slots into a space alongside Horizon's shoulder and connects with the overall system. She feels her mind expand as she interlinkes with the device, feeling it's pain and the various stray debris rolling around it's lubrication channels and the missing sections of long wire. Thankfully one was recovered before the lizard-birds could take it. You'll have a +3 ongoing to the various attempts to repair the device, and to locate replacement parts.
[2025/04/23 14:46] Sapphire: > Yes, a 10 is good, the two of you manage to take the various chunks of crystal, glassteel, and tools to set up a decent barricade across the opening. Should keep out wildlife, and slow down any intentional attacks.
[2025/04/23 14:47] D20: Mecha rolls 13
[2025/04/23 14:47] Martina: shouts to the girls "I can see the device is missing some sections of wire, throw down the wire you have and I'll try to repair the missing sections"
[2025/04/23 14:48] Mecha: Robin throws down the wire she has
[2025/04/23 14:49] Martina: connects the sections of wire into the device trying to repair the connections
[2025/04/23 14:50] Sapphire: Anyone else assisting?
[2025/04/23 14:50] Sonja Bikergrrl: /me likewise lobs wire
[2025/04/23 14:51] Martina: If you two can gather up the stray debris we may actually get this thing operational again
[2025/04/23 14:51] Sapphire: Two people assisting then.... I'll let that be +3 from each without yet requiring you to know the skill (though you do have by this point enough XP to pick up an extra potentially relevant skill. )
[2025/04/23 14:51] Mecha: IF the section is done Robin will do that
[2025/04/23 14:52] Sonja Bikergrrl: anything in particular?
[2025/04/23 14:52] Sapphire: ( Which reminds me, +1 xp for attendence and an additional +2 xp for clearing the room . I think that gets you all up to around 8 xp if you haven't spent anything )
[2025/04/23 14:53] Sonja Bikergrrl: all this XP! XP for the masses!
[2025/04/23 14:55] Sapphire: Did my rules reference mention how XP works?
[2025/04/23 14:55] Sonja Bikergrrl: kind of...
[2025/04/23 14:55] Sapphire: ah it was at the bottom of the notecard
[2025/04/23 14:55] Mecha: You get XP, and you get XP everybody gets XP!
[2025/04/23 14:56] Sonja Bikergrrl: didn't we expend 2 XP so we should be on 6. We avoided an Intrusion
[2025/04/23 14:56] Sapphire: Ah, yes, that one
[2025/04/23 14:57] Sapphire: So, Martina, at the moment you are improving your odds by 9, so reducing the difficulty from 21 on the die to.... 12. 9 if you also spend Intellect Effort
[2025/04/23 14:57] Martina: on the D20?
[2025/04/23 14:58] Sapphire: yes yes
[2025/04/23 14:58] Martina: ok, here goes nothing......
[2025/04/23 14:58] D20: Martina rolls 16
[2025/04/23 14:58] Martina: woohoo
[2025/04/23 14:59] Sonja Bikergrrl: we're on fire tonight!
[2025/04/23 15:00] Sapphire: > The repairs take another few hours, the control implant helps with halting the movement of the gyroscope rings while you're working on them, and the assistance of the other two helps with shifting parts into the correct position. At one point you end up needing to extract parts from the most damaged ring, but that's enough to restore the system to a good three quarters of it's intended functionality. Should be hardly noticiable in good weather.
[2025/04/23 15:01] Martina: now we just need to find out what this thing does
[2025/04/23 15:01] Sonja Bikergrrl: ...weather, in space...?
[2025/04/23 15:03] Sapphire: > You're not in space, you're in atmosphere.
[2025/04/23 15:03] Sonja Bikergrrl: Troposphere is pretty up....
[2025/04/23 15:04] Sapphire: > You can feel the air whistling through the patch job you applied while looking at the planet below you, green and grey as you were going over an oddly straight-lined mountain range
[2025/04/23 15:04] Sapphire: Troposphere is the -lowest- layer of the Atmosphere
[2025/04/23 15:05] Sapphire: so you're only about... 15 kilometers above the ground
[2025/04/23 15:05] Sapphire: if that
[2025/04/23 15:06] Sonja Bikergrrl: well above clouds. Rain won't be an issue
[2025/04/23 15:06] Sonja Bikergrrl: friction and heat and a decaying orbit might be, though... are there parachutes on board? Asking for a friend.
[2025/04/23 15:07] Sapphire: Not as such though there's enough parts around you might be able to figure things out
[2025/04/23 15:07] Sapphire: While you're mulling this over the structure straights and stabilizes. The floor now feels nicely level below you
[2025/04/23 15:07] Sonja Bikergrrl: ladies.... -might- be an idea to get off this... this thing.... soon!
[2025/04/23 15:08] Sapphire: Horizon, which "thing" did you mean to figure out?
[2025/04/23 15:08] Mecha: So what we go to ground? How do we do it?
[2025/04/23 15:09] Sonja Bikergrrl: Isn't there some other problem to solve first?
[2025/04/23 15:09] Martina: I think I may have an idea what this thing does... i think its a teleporter, we can use it to get to ground before this ship decays orbit and burns us to a crisp
[2025/04/23 15:11] Sapphire: Your HUDs all update. (Mission A now completed to satisfaction. Equipment and Upgrade Requests authorized. Mission B remains: "Identify Intruder origins." )
[2025/04/23 15:11] Sonja Bikergrrl: They better not be more geese
[2025/04/23 15:13] Sapphire: A clarification arrives that they meant the lightning rich humanoids who had broken into the hanger bays earlier. The one that had rebooted everyone when their final discharge weapon went off in the prolouge.
[2025/04/23 15:13] Sonja Bikergrrl: that sounds much worse
[2025/04/23 15:17] Mecha: Well let's go and check it out
[2025/04/23 15:17] Martina: sounds like a plan lead on
[2025/04/23 15:18] Sonja Bikergrrl: /me follows the two who know where they're going
[2025/04/23 15:18] Sapphire: > The trip back down goes through several ladders and bridges. it seems like things are getting more stable in here now that the spinning is sorted, and you've already gotten the relevant bulkheads open.
[2025/04/23 15:18] Martina: giggles I slept through the first two so only just starting to catch up so dont follow me
[2025/04/23 15:20] Mecha: Well hea don in and look around
[2025/04/23 15:21] Sapphire: > You three arrive to the power and control conduit room with lots of energized studs along the angled walls. The intruders are in rough shape, already partially looted by you earlier and with extensive combat damage. The electrical one is medium charred with hints of their embedded implants showing. Others seem more biological, though in a ping and bloodyway that is much less refined than your own advanced crystal bodies.
[2025/04/23 15:21] Sonja Bikergrrl: they're dead, right?
[2025/04/23 15:22] Sapphire: Indeed.
[2025/04/23 15:22] Martina: pokes one and it doesnt react... Yep, looks dead
[2025/04/23 15:22] Sonja Bikergrrl: /me is tempted to stab them, they might be zombies
[2025/04/23 15:23] Martina: make sure its through the brain then...
[2025/04/23 15:23] Sapphire: The most expensive part of them? if that's your preference...
[2025/04/23 15:24] Martina: scans the bodies for implants to see if there's anything useful there
[2025/04/23 15:24] Mecha: While they are brain stabbing I am going to explore everything see if there might be a ship they came in or something
[2025/04/23 15:24] Sonja Bikergrrl: I'll check the room out, if there's anything useful
[2025/04/23 15:25] Martina: would be good to know how they got here
[2025/04/23 15:26] Sapphire: > The room itself has several exits to the lower parts of the flying structure, as well as energized studs on the wall where the lightning mage was messing with the power and data before you managed to take him out.
[2025/04/23 15:27] Sapphire: > Martina, you find... *extensive* implants in the lightning mages body, capacitors, magnetics, what seem to be golden wires and bits of crystal wrapping their lower back.
[2025/04/23 15:28] Sapphire: > Robin, exploring down the other doors as well?
[2025/04/23 15:29] Mecha: /me nods
[2025/04/23 15:34] Sapphire: > SPassing through several tight hallways with a handful of dead end nooks and crannies, you make it to the Lower Hanger, helpfully labled to your HUD when you reach it. A weak energy field covers the openings with a red glittering effect, but you can otherwise see out the large bay to the mountain range below, a massive perfectly circular structure standing out. Inside, however, are two creatures too large to fit through the tight hallways... green-scaled snakes twenty feet long with six sets of bat-like wings and wearing armor painted with gold and white.
[2025/04/23 15:34] Sapphire: *Passing
[2025/04/23 15:34] Sapphire: > They both focus their attention on Robin when she enters the hanger, spreading their wings and hissing.
[2025/04/23 15:35] Mecha: Robin backs up slowly. Not taking her eyes from them
[2025/04/23 15:35] Sapphire: > They continue to glare and hisss, but do not pursue
[2025/04/23 15:36] Martina: sorry girls, nodding off here, need to get some sleep
[2025/04/23 15:36] Mecha: Robin is going to go abck and warn the others
[2025/04/23 15:36] Martina: g'night all, will catch up later
[2025/04/23 15:37] Sonja Bikergrrl: okay.....
[2025/04/23 15:37] Sonja Bikergrrl: I'm running down a bit too. Think chronic lack of sleep is becoming a thing.
[2025/04/23 15:39] Sapphire: ----
[2025/04/23 15:39] Sapphire: Ok
